How do you feel when you move from one season to another? Do you love the change? Struggle during transition?
Each season can bring exciting change, as well as challenges. This can affect our mood, exercise routine and our nutrition. This is why we need to listen closely and pay attention to how we are affected and support our mental and physical health during these times of transitions.
During the winter season we might feel the desire to stay indoors more and become less active. We may want to eat more comfort foods during this time. In this season, it is important to create routines and put into place a plan with support. Take those rest days and support your body with warm, nourishing foods.
In the Spring, we may begin to feel more energized and have a stronger desire to be active or get oudoors. An increase in sunshine and longer days, make this a great time to incorporate outdoor activities. You may feel an increase in motivation to get back into your routine and eat lighter meals. It might also be a fun time to start a new program or try a new class.
During the Summer season, while the weather is much nicer and we are spending more time outside, we also have less structrure. With children at home and vacations, it may be hard to stick to a routine. Don't beat yourself up if you can't commit to the same routine or meal times look a little different and maybe not as healthy. Do your best and make adjustments to your routine and expectations of yourself. Lean in and enjoy the times that are less scheduled!
Fall is a great time to "fall" back into a regular routine. We are often craving more structure in our day to day. Look into switching up your programs or starting something new. This is also a great time to try meal planning or new recipes.
Whatever season you might be in while reading this, remember to check in and listen to what you need to be happy and healthy. Be kind to yourself and look for the good in the change!
