How do you juggle the busyness of the holidays and stay consistent with your exercise routine?

Do you take a break from the gym or classes?  Do you add more to your plate and become overwhelmed or discouraged because you can't squeeze it all in?

Here are some helpful tips, suggestions or just reminders to help you remain active, even during the holiday season!

  • Schedule your workouts in!  Try and continue and plan your yoga classes or workouts in but maybe scale it back a little.
  • Keep it simple.  You dont have to come to the gym 4-5 times a week to feel good or meet your goals.  Trying to do too much might make it hard to do anything at all!
  • Workout with a buddy!  If you don't already, maybe invite a friend or your partner to join you for your workout or go to a class together.  In doing this, you are taking time for yourself and spending time together.
  • Walk outside.  I don't know about you, but I find it extremely challenging to get outside this time of year!  Lucky for me, I have a golden retriever that loves this cool, rainy and windy weather!
  • Do a workout or pilates video at home.  There are so many great quick, yet still challenging videos that you can do in the comfort of your own home.  I especially like this when I am too busy to get to the gym but feel guilty if I don't get some movement in for the day.
  • Get it in early!  The days are shorter and definitely a lot darker!  If you find yourself getting up earlier, why not get that workout in earlier?  This will actually give you more energy to get through all the acitivies scheduled in the rest of your day.
  • Set realistic expecations during holiday season.  Know that you might not be able to get to the gym or classes as often as you did.  Try not to beat yourself up over it and be happy when you make it to those 2 classes.
  • Rest when you need it.  Our bodies need rest too.  Rest days are just as important for building muscle because they allow our bodies to repair and grow muscle tissue.
