10 reasons to start practicing yoga

Do you currently practice yoga?  Here are 10 great reasons to give yoga a try!

 

  1. Mental Health!  Yoga is great for our mental health.  It can be helpful in reducing stress, anxiety, lowering our heat rate and calming our mind.
  2. Yoga can help to reduce our risk of injury by keeping our joints and tissues in our body healthy.
  3. Practicing yoga can improve our strength, flexibility and mobility.
  4. How is your balance?  Yoga can improve our balance and prevent future falls.
  5. Posture!  Yoga can improve our posture by increasing our awareness and connection to our body.
  6. Do you suffer from back pain? Yoga can help alleviate back pain or discomfort.
  7. Sleep!  Yoga can help you sleep better at night by calming your nervous system and stimulating the rest and digest response in the body.
  8. More energy!  Practicing yoga regularly can help give you more energy throughout the day.
  9. Elevate your mood.  Physical activity can stimulate the brain and increase endorphins, those feel good emotions!
  10. Yoga increases our mind and body connection and can promote overall better self care.

People often use excuses like "I'm not flexible" or "my back is always sore" as reasons why they haven't given yoga a chance. "I can't get down on the ground or even come close to touching my toes".  The reason you think yoga is not for you, is often why you might need yoga in your life. Remember, yoga is a practice and it is never too late to start. Try to find yourself a studio you feel comfortable in and just show up and do what you can!
